A college education has become essential in today's business world. It has also become extremely expensive, especially for the average middle class family. In order for many students to achieve a college degree they must depend on financial aid. This aid can come in a variety of forms.

In 2009-10 more than $145 billion in financial aid was provided to students. This data shows the average student received a little over $11,000 each. Some of this money is in the form of grants which do not have to be repaid. Other aid is in the form of loans which are repaid under a variety of terms.

Average Cost oF College Degree

The amount you will be required to pay for college will depend greatly on the college or university you plan to attend. On average a public four year college will cost $7,600 per year. This includes only tuition and fees and applies only to in-state students. For out of state students the tuition and fees go up to just under $12,000 annually.
